Selena Garcia: Bio

Music saved and continues to save me.

I’m a singer/songwriter but not the folky kind. I get compared to Sara Bareilles, Amy Winehouse and Fiona Apple. I love blues, jazz and appreciate singers who are good storytellers. Eva Cassidy is one of my all time favorites next to Aretha Franklin, Etta James and Nina Simone.

I started writing lyrics when I was 13, living in Alaska and inspired by Michael Jackson’s The History album. Cyndi Lauper was my idol as a kid.

I got my degree in Music Business from California State University, Chico and though I always wanted to be a singer, I was a closet singer until I was 22. My first solo performance was in front of 500 people and I wanted to vomit and pee my pants at the same time. I received a great review of the performance and figured I miiiiight have something to work with.

My mother was a singer who belted Barbara Streisand, Michael Bolton and Celine Dion tunes anywhere and everywhere. It was embarrassing. My brother’s an extremely talented drummer with an impeccable ear and my father’s a true music lover. In fact my earliest memory is listening to Pink Floyd’s The Wall with my dad.

I recently sold all of my stuff to pursue music full time after doing music in LA for several years. The west coast has been really good to me, so I’m off to learn by leaving my comfort zone. I’m headed east and overseas.

I’m currently writing for my next project and looking for the right team to work with.

I love people.

I appreciate truth and think communication is one of the best gifts we have. People don’t communicate enough.

Maya Angelou once said… “When you learn, teach”. I love that.
